After a concerted campaign that escalated in the final week, NJTogether leaders (along with allies from the Corrections Officers Union) secured a commitment to universal COVID-19 testing for people in prison and staff on April 30th. This will test 25,000 people in the coming weeks & has begun.
NJTogether criminal justice team leaders began to raise this issue in mid-March, speaking directly with the DOC commissioner and Governor Murphy's staff. The team escalated its pressure in late April with a video of family members speaking about the impact of lack of testing for their loved ones and placing stories in the statewide & national press.
